Deroplatys gorochovi, commonly known as the Vietnamese Giant Dead Leaf Mantis, is a large species of praying mantis native to the tropical forests of southern Vietnam. It is highly regarded among enthusiasts for its remarkable camouflage, which allows it to mimic a decaying, earthy brown leaf.

Key Characteristics

  • Size & Lifespan: Females are significantly larger and live longer (14–22 months) than males (8–10 months).
  • Behaviour: This is a quiet, nocturnal species that typically remains still for long periods to ambush prey like flies, butterflies, and small cockroaches.
  • Care Level: It is considered an intermediate-care species. It generally requires temperatures between 24–28°C and high humidity (70–80%) to thrive and moult successfully.
