Camelomantis is a genus of praying mantises in the family Mantidae, native to Southeast Asia. Commonly referred to as Asian Leaf Mantises or sometimes "Camel" mantises, they are popular in the exotic pet trade for their distinct appearance and relatively gentle nature.

Key Characteristics

Appearance: These are medium-to-large mantids. Their colours typically range from bright green to yellow-green, though nymphs may display green with brown or orange banded legs.
Camouflage: They rely on leaf-like mimicry to blend into their forest environments, acting as ambush predators.

Behaviour: They are described as a "medium gentle" species, making them suitable for enthusiasts. Males are generally smaller and more lightly built than females.

Care in Captivity

For those keeping Camelomantis sp. as pets, they generally require the following conditions:

Temperature: Daytime temperatures between 22–28°C.
Humidity: High humidity levels, typically 75%–85% during the day and even higher at night, are crucial for successful moulting.
Diet: They are insectivores, with young nymphs (L1–L3) usually feeding on fruit flies or small house flies.
Housing: Adults (imago) require a minimum enclosure size of approximately 20x20x15cm.
